4 AI Personal Assistants (3 Tested)

In today's digital age, the desire for a personal AI assistant is more prevalent than ever. Ideally, we want an AI that functions like a helpful genie, providing information and reminders as needed, without forgetting or exhibiting attitude problems. In this quest to find the perfect AI assistant akin to Marvin, I decided to test three options: Personal AI, Open Assistant, and Nova app, each varying in functionality and pricing. Let's dive in!

Personal AI

First up is Personal AI, which has made its services available to everyone—not just the selected few. The tagline "This is Personally Yours" emphasizes its ability to "supercharge your memory," which is exactly what we are looking for. For example, a user named James Conway asked his AI to create a social media post about his family vacation to Ireland. While the attempt showcased the AI's capabilities, it fell short of authenticity—writing in a generic manner and not capturing the personal experiences that make such memories special.

Regarding pricing, Personal AI offers a Pro Plan for $ 40 a month and a limited zero-dollar tier to get started. After installation, I inquired about my dentist appointment, which it accurately offered as "July 10th." However, when I attempted to verify the time, it mistakenly indicated that my appointment was on July 12th, leading to some frustration.

Open Assistant

My next trial was with Open Assistant, an open-source chatbot. As an accessibility-first option, it allows for customization and free usage. However, it quickly became clear that I was engaging with software that lacked context. When I asked about my next appointment, it couldn't provide answers without being given explicit details first. Even after clarifying my dental appointment on July 10th, it insisted that I had a root canal scheduled earlier. This left me with the impression that Open Assistant prioritizes caution over accuracy.

Nova App

The third assistant was the Nova app, billed as a "revolutionary AI chatbot." However, navigating its web interface was frustrating, as many links simply redirected to the homepage without substantial information. Although it promised a connection to ChatGPT's capabilities, the interface offered very limited interaction for free users. The proposition seemed to be that it could be accessed across mobile devices, but again, it didn't present itself as a personal assistant.

Leon

Additionally, I discovered Leon, another open-source option. Unlike the others, Leon claims to help automate tasks by living on your server, making it more appealing for users who understand technical setups like Node.js. This could potentially alleviate some of the burdens of digital organization, but it requires a level of engagement not needed with more user-friendly solutions.

In conclusion, while the quest for the ideal AI assistant continues, I remain hopeful about two AI personal assistants currently in beta testing that look promising. Stay tuned for updates in future explorations!
