Creating a Custom CLO Avatar

Science & Technology

Introduction

Welcome to another cloud tutorial! In this article, we will walk you through the steps to create a custom avatar in CLO. We will cover how to personalize and customize your avatar to match your desired aesthetic. Let's dive in!

Getting Started

Begin by opening your libraries and locating the default avatar folder. CLO offers several default avatars: five for men, three for kids, and five for women. For this tutorial, I will be using the v2 avatar, specifically "Grace." Double-click on her to load her into the 3D window, where you can interact with her.

Changing Size Specifications

All avatars come in default underwear and heels, but let’s change that! Navigate to the "Size" folder within the avatar’s directory. Here, you will find various ASTM folders categorized by shape, such as petite and curvy. Double-click on one of these folders to find sizes ranging from 2 to 22. Click on a size, and watch how Grace's proportions immediately adjust.

For more custom sizing, use the avatar editor. A pop-up window will display where you can input detailed size specifications, including height and underbust circumference. Each change will reflect instantly on your avatar. Happy with your size? Save your specifications as ABS files for future use.

Customizing Aesthetic

To change Grace’s hairstyle, navigate to the "Hair" folder. Browse through various hairstyles; double-click to apply one to Grace. If you wish to change the hair color, select the hair and modify its color in the property editor.

Next, let's change the avatar’s underwear. Backtrack to the "Texture" folder, which contains options like "Covered" or "Nude." By dragging and dropping your choice onto the specific body part in the property editor, you can instantly customize her look.

If you want to add makeup, select Grace’s face, go to the texture in the property editor, and allocate the appropriate texture. From there, you can drag the texture onto Photoshop and create your desired makeup look.

Changing Shoes and Poses

To change shoes, go to the "Shoe" folder. Browse options and double-click on a shoe type to apply it. Change the color by selecting the shoe and adjusting it in the property editor.

To adjust Grace's pose, navigate to the “Pose” folder. Choose a flat pose option or any preferred pose and ensure “Pose Only” is selected. For advanced pose adjustments, use the 3D toggle bar to show X-ray joints. You can manipulate the body parts individually or symmetrically by toggling the gray icon.

Save your pose as a POS file for future use, and build your library of poses that can apply to different avatars later.

Creating Motion Files

Lastly, I’ll show you how to create a motion file. For this, we need to use a v1 avatar since v2 does not currently have this option. Bring your custom v1 avatar into the 3D space along with a garment. Navigate to the "Hip Motion" folder in your avatar's directory, select a motion file, and ensure it’s correctly applied.

With simulation enabled, you can kick off the walking motion for your avatar.
