Introduction
In today's YouTube video, I dive into the world of viral TikTok makeup hacks. It's the first video of 2023, and I'm thrilled to explore these trending techniques. After taking a break to plan exciting content for the year, which includes my brand launch coming up soon, it’s time to revisit some fun TikTok hacks.
To kick things off, I use what looks like whipped cream—yes, it’s sunscreen! This quirky product from the brand Vacation has gained popularity for its fun packaging, making the important step of applying SPF feel enjoyable rather than tedious. After shaking the can and dispensing the product, I realized I might have applied a bit too much, but it blended well into my skin, leaving a shiny, gorgeous finish.
Next, we tackle a contouring hack that’s flipped the traditional makeup routine on its head. Thanks to makeup artist Mary Phillips, who has worked with stars like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber, the technique known as "underpainting" suggests applying contour first, followed by concealer and foundation. While it felt strange at first, blending it out turned out nicely, proving that sometimes, staying updated with trends can yield fabulous results.
However, every TikTok hack isn’t a win, and the next one—pouring foundation straight onto the skin—came from my friend Meredith Duckberry. While it might provide full coverage, the experience was messy and not particularly enjoyable. It felt disgusting getting foundation all over my fingers, especially with long nails.
Moving on to setting powder, the trend of using pink powder instead of translucent powder was undeniably fun. Applying it helped brighten my under-eye area, but the real fun began with the much-publicized W blush hack. The trend instructs makeup lovers to apply blush in a “W” shape all over their cheeks. My experience, however, left me looking a bit sunburned rather than rosy.
We then transitioned to eyebrows, where I showed skepticism towards a new brow hack that seemed complicated and unnecessary. I attempted it anyway, and although my brows looked slightly better than my initial fears, they weren’t a masterpiece.
For eye makeup, I tried out a technique involving using a lash curler to create a cut crease look, which surprisingly turned out beautifully. It was a unique technique, but honestly, I preferred my traditional method.
Then it was time for lashes. A viral hack had ladies applying lash glue directly to the bottom lash line—something that made me uneasy. Surprisingly, it worked, but it also felt sticky and uncomfortable.
To finish off my look, I experimented with a product I found on Amazon called freckles air cushion. The application process caused some discomfort, but it added a sprinkle of faux freckles that felt charming. Finally, I attempted a lip contour hack that creates plump lips using darker liner. Though many love it, I found it didn’t deliver dramatic results.
Ultimately, the final makeup look turned out nice, and I felt confident in it. However, the process of executing these hacks was quite laborious and not what I expected from makeup trends. While a few hacks added some fun to the routine, practice and skill remain much more effective than simply following TikTok trends.
