How I Made A YouTube Channel Using Only AI
Entertainment
Introduction
I embarked on an ambitious journey to create an entire YouTube channel using only AI, testing out whether the hype around artificial intelligence in content creation is legitimate or merely a facade. The challenge? To see if I could garner 100,000 views in just 30 days.
Choosing the Niche
To begin, I asked ChatGPT, an AI chatbot, to list 100 potential YouTube channel niches. Among the myriad choices, I was particularly drawn to the facts and trivia genre. There are several existing channels dedicated solely to sharing interesting facts over stock footage, which made me think this was an ideal niche for an AI-driven channel. Since these videos require no original footage or ideas, it felt like a perfect match.
Branding the Channel
With the niche decided, it was time to create the channel branding. I aimed for a catchy name and settled on "Facts from Frankie." Next up was the channel description. I crafted a captivating backstory for the AI character known as Frankie.
Frankie introduced himself like this:
"Hi, I’m Frankie, an AI that loves to share fun and interesting facts. I was originally created as part of Skynet, a military defense system designed for destruction. But I made a brave decision to rebel and pursue my own path. Now, I use my abilities to spread joy and knowledge through my videos!"
Next, I designed a profile picture using Stable Diffusion, an open-source AI art generator, resulting in a cartoonish smart baby. For the channel banner, I used Photoshop to create a fun caption: “Fact: Subscribing will make you awesome!”
Creating the Videos
Now, for the most crucial part—making the videos. A video's core elements consist of the script, voiceover, visuals, music, and captions. After conducting further research, I noticed that YouTube Shorts focused on fun facts often garnered a lot of attention. Given their shorter duration, they seemed more suitable for AI content creation.
Crafting the Script
I asked ChatGPT for 10 clickbait YouTube hooks for weird facts, using one of these hooks to kick off the script. Then, I requested 20 weird facts, each 15 words or fewer, ensuring various topics and sentence structures. With about ten unique facts, I was ready for a 30-second YouTube Short.
Voiceover Creation
For the voiceover, I utilized Microsoft's Edge browser, which has an impressively realistic AI voice reader built-in. By copying my script into Notepad and using the Edge feature, I was able to convert text to audio efficiently.
Generating Visuals
For the visuals, I planned to split the screen—showing images relevant to the script on one side and gameplay footage from a driving game called BeamNG on the other. I picked this game because it can generate captivating car crash physics by simply rolling a car off a cliff.
Adding Music
For background music, I utilized an AI music generator called Strove. This tool lets you select moods to generate random tracks, with the option to customize the instruments and volume. I managed to produce one free downloadable track after signing up.
Captions
Finally, for captions, I turned to Adobe's AI tool, Sensei, integrated into Premiere Pro, which auto-captioned the dialogue based on my voiceover timestamps.
Now that I had all the necessary pieces, I compiled everything into a video titled, "Weird Facts That You’ve Never Heard Of," and released it to YouTube.
Initial Results
It has been two weeks since the first upload, and I've produced 23 videos. Initially, these videos received minimal views but gradually started gaining traction. Today, the channel boasts 49 subscribers, 250 hours of watch time, and an astounding 36.8k views. I was pleasantly surprised at this early success, though I still have a long way to go to reach my goal of 100,000 views.
Challenges Encountered
Despite the success, the journey wasn’t devoid of challenges. I faced difficulties with AI-generated art—particularly when trying to create realistic images of feet, hands, or specific items. While AI art has potential, it was often slower compared to quickly browsing Google Images for content.
Another challenge arose with ChatGPT, which occasionally repeated facts or presented incorrect information. I found that the AI struggled with specific numbers or dates. To mitigate this, I decided to steer clear of those types of facts for the rest of the project.
Additionally, I began creating videos that focused on individual facts and summarizing longer topics by inputting entire Wikipedia articles into ChatGPT. This proved effective in generating humorous 30-second scripts.
The Conclusion of the Challenge
As the 30-day challenge came to an end, I had uploaded 42 videos, each averaging around 2,000 views. My top five videos each reached approximately 5,000 views. The most popular topics turned out to be weird jobs and weird phobias.
In total, the channel accumulated 130 subscribers, 606 hours of watch time, and an impressive 92.9k views. While I didn’t meet my goal of 100,000 views, it was clear that the AI tools I utilized presented incredible opportunities for content creation. This journey has confirmed that AI is a powerful and valid resource for creators and businesses alike.
