How to CREATE a 3D EFFECT in Canva | Perspective Text Effect | Easy Tutorial (No Photoshop Needed!)
Education
Introduction
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create a striking 3D effect using Canva, a game-changing app for 3D designs. Let’s dive right in!
Step 1: Start a New Design
Begin by opening a new design in Canva. The canvas size isn’t critical, but for this example, I’ll use the Instagram story resolution. However, feel free to select any dimensions that suit your project.
Step 2: Set the Background Color
Change the background color to a shade of red to lay a vibrant foundation for your design.
Step 3: Enable Rulers for Alignment
Next, enable the rulers by pressing Shift + R
on your keyboard. This will help ensure precise alignment throughout the design.
Step 4: Create a Rectangle for Shadow
Drag a ruler to find the center of your design. Create a rectangle that stretches to cover the left side. Apply a gradient color, setting the left side to match the red background and the right side to black with zero transparency; this forms the shadow element.
Step 5: Duplicate and Modify Rectangle
Duplicate the rectangle you just created, then change the black to white while keeping the transparency at zero.
Step 6: Add Shadow and Light Lines
Search for a shadow line element within Canva. Rotate it 90° and place it exactly in the center of your design. Repeat this with a light line, adjusting it to match the size of the shadow line and reducing its transparency slightly. Once done, you can remove the ruler line.
Step 7: Create Text for 3D Effect
Now, add a new page to start working on your text. Select any text you prefer, but aim for one letter that stretches across the design to create a 3D effect that appears as if it’s protruding from one wall and breaking into another.
Step 8: Download Text as PNG
Download the text in PNG format with a transparent background. This allows the text to maintain its integrity when manipulated.
Step 9: Use Transform Image App
Open the Transform Image app and upload the PNG of your text. Zoom in slightly to clearly see what you're adjusting. This app provides options to alter the perspective of the uploaded image.
Step 10: Adjust the Text Perspective
Change the perspective for the first half of the text and then add it to your design. Afterward, adjust the other half and include that in your design as well.
Step 11: Cut and Position the Text
Next, you'll want to cut the left side of the text to showcase only the first two letters and part of the letter "D." Position that piece accordingly. Do the same for the right side, retaining only the letters "E" and "R" along with the remaining part of "D."
Step 12: Align Everything
Make sure to position everything to form a continuous piece of text, ensuring there are no visible gaps in the middle.
Step 13: Final Touches with Shadows
As a final touch, duplicate the shadow line and position it over the left half of the letter. Reduce its transparency to around 50% to create a subtle shadow effect that enhances the 3D appearance.
And there you have it! Your text will now look as if it's breaking into the corner of a wall, creating a realistic 3D effect.
