I Can Finally Upgrade My Art! :D

Introduction
One question I frequently encounter is, "Hey Emily, what drawing program do you use or recommend?" For a long time, my response varied, often mentioning my current program, but secretly wishing to make the switch to Clip Studio Paint. I've heard amazing things about it, yet the thought of learning an entirely new art application felt immensely daunting. As someone who struggles with technology, I was unsure where to start.
However, I finally made the leap! It dawned on me that I was missing out on valuable features that Clip Studio offered. Since many of my artist friends use it, getting help for specific art challenges was often tricky because they would describe tools or features that simply didn't exist in my previous program.
The features that originally drew me toward Clip Studio Paint were the ability to download and utilize custom brushes and tools specifically designed for comic creation. Additionally, the program allows for easy text integration into artwork. For instance, I had to open previous comic panels in Clip Studio just to add speech bubbles and text, which should have been my clue to make the switch earlier.
My first video fully utilizing Clip Studio Paint was a chat with Lily, and you could tell I was still figuring things out. Even after a month of use, I'm still very much a novice, but luckily, Clip Studio approached me with a sponsorship opportunity and a chance to visit their office. There, I received a live demonstration of some new 2.0 features.
In my learning session, I had the pleasure of speaking with Naoki-san, a Clip Studio developer, who shared a treasure trove of tips suitable for beginners. He introduced me to the various preset brushes available for background decoration as well as how to find and download custom brush presets from Clip Studio Assets. We experimented with a floral brush preset to create a vibrant background.
Next, he introduced me to the bucket tool. Instead of the usual repeated taps, I learned I could just drag my stylus to fill areas with color. The ability to fill color in line art without being on the line art layer was a game-changer.
Naoki-san also demonstrated the wonderful auto shading feature released with Clip Studio 2.0, which creates automatic shadows while allowing you to manipulate the light source settings. This tool genuinely simplifies the shading process.
Another exciting feature was the 3D model usage for posing. I learned how to access these models in the material palette and adjust their poses. This feature removes the stress of figuring out complicated angles, especially for intricate poses.
Lastly, we spoke about tools specifically for manga drawing. Clip Studio has a create frame tool that allows you to generate panels instantly, along with an ellipse balloon tool to create speech bubbles effortlessly.
After gathering all this knowledge, I went home eager to implement these new tools in creating my comic page. I sketched out a layout and enjoyed utilizing the panel creation options. The shading assist tool became immensely beneficial for enhancing my flat coloring and brought a true vibrancy to my drawings.
While I didn't focus heavily on the background, I felt proud of how the coloring turned out. My favorite tools proved to be the panel creation option and the shading assist, which together made a noticeable difference in the final product.
I can't wait to delve deeper into the 3D tools and experiment with dynamic posing next time. Though I’m still navigating this extensive software, I am genuinely excited about the improvements it will bring to my artwork, especially for my videos.
Clip Studio Paint offers a robust library of features and resources, so I highly recommend it for anyone looking to enhance their artistic journey. They offer a free trial for those uncertain about committing to a new program. Also, being accessible on multiple devices makes it perfect for my traveling lifestyle.
A huge thank you goes to Clip Studio for this amazing opportunity and Naoki-san for guiding me through my journey with Clip Studio Paint!
