ChatGPT has proven to be incredibly beneficial for various tasks – summarizing information, rephrasing awkward sentences, and condensing lengthy content into concise formats. However, I was eager to explore its capabilities further and see how it could assist me in organizing my daily tasks and creating a schedule. Using the My GPTs feature, I discovered it works remarkably well, and I’m excited to share the process with you.
Getting Started
To kick things off, I opened ChatGPT. If you’re a Plus subscriber like I am, you can navigate to the “Explore GPTs” section. In the top corner, there’s an option to create a GPT. I recommend starting with a blank Google Doc to outline your goals and tasks for the week, which will help in organizing your ideas.
When faced with a blank page, I utilized ChatGPT right away by asking, “Can you help me design a list of tasks for the week categorized into work, home, personal development, health, social, and finance?” The AI promptly provided categories and guidance on listing my tasks within them.
I then customized the categories to fit my needs, focusing on work, home, and health, for example. My preliminary tasks included work projects and personal responsibilities, like exercising and making healthy meal choices.
Once I solidified my list, I saved it as a PDF for future reference.
Creating Your Custom GPT
Creating a GPT in ChatGPT is pretty straightforward. You directly communicate with the chatbot, telling it what you want to create. I copied the initial prompt about organizing my daily tasks and pasted it into ChatGPT.
Next, I named my GPT — I chose “Daily Todo and Schedule,” but you can select any name that resonates with you. ChatGPT will generate a simple profile picture to help you identify your custom GPT easily.
After that, the chatbot will ask for more details about the tasks you usually handle and how you would like it to assist you in organizing them. For my purposes, I pasted the earlier task categories and specified that I wanted proactive check-ins and detailed daily summaries.
Fine-tuning and Interacting
The custom GPT will begin asking qualifying questions. For instance, how detailed the daily summaries should be and what tone of communication to adopt. I opted for a casual tone and detailed responses.
Once I finalized my setup, I started testing it. I prompted it with, “Please run me through a set of questions to organize my day.” This allows the GPT to ask you about your main tasks systematically, which, for me, reduces the overwhelming nature of addressing everything at once.
The result was a clear, hour-by-hour breakdown of tasks based on my priorities, providing me with a solid framework for my day. This system works as more than just a to-do list; it's a functional approach to managing tasks efficiently.
