Welcome back to my channel, friends! If you’re new here, I’m Anna, and I love creating writing-related content. Today's video is super exciting because I'm collaborating with the amazing Rachel, also known as Rachel Writes on YouTube. We’re diving into a collaborative challenge using ChatGPT, which is an AI system I recently reviewed in a previous video.
In this video, we’ll both be using the same two words—“reconciliation” and “horoscopes”—to inspire our stories through AI-generated prompts. It’s going to be fascinating to see how each of our tales unfolds differently, and whether we can effectively use AI as a writing tool.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT stands for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer. Essentially, it’s a chatbot that allows you to input questions or prompts, much like asking a friend for help with creative ideas. For instance, you can instruct it to "write a poem about flowers," and it will generate a human-like response based on its training data.
As we embark on this challenge, we’ll see how well ChatGPT can assist us in crafting our narratives. Let’s go ahead and input our two words into the system to see what it generates for us.
The AI's Story
Upon entering the prompt “write a story about reconciliation and horoscopes,” the AI provided a synopsis about Ava, a young woman who turns to her daily horoscope for guidance after a breakup. The story follows her journey toward reconciliation with her ex-boyfriend, Jake, based on what the horoscope advises.
While I expected a darker take, the AI generated a more heartwarming story of love and hope. I plan to take this AI-generated story as inspiration to draft my own 500-word flash fiction, modeling my narrative against the main points created by the AI. This allows me to introduce my own ideas while still considering the trajectory suggested by the AI.
Ava's Journey
I decided to maintain the core characters and themes from the AI’s story, specifically Ava's fascination with horoscopes and her tumultuous relationship with Jake. Trust emerged as a vital theme as Ava navigates her beliefs about horoscopes and the reconciliation process. After jotting down some ideas, I found it intriguing to explore how Ava’s trust might waver throughout the story, especially when physic's accuracy comes into question.
Fast forward to the next day, and I was fully immersed in writing! Surprisingly, I quickly reached the intended word count, though it was challenging to keep the story concise. I ended up expanding my flash fiction to 1,000 words but felt it added more depth to the narrative.
Introducing “Dead End”
The final piece, titled “Dead End,” takes a much darker turn than what was generated by the AI. It follows Ava as she grapples with the pain of heartbreak and betrayal. Unique elements, such as tarot cards, replace the AI’s focus on horoscopes to reflect Ava’s dependence on these divinatory tools for guidance.
The narrative explores themes of love, loss, and the pitfalls of relying too heavily on external validation, ultimately questioning whether guidance from sources like tarot cards and horoscopes can truly steer one's fate.
The Experience of AI in Writing
This experience opens up a fascinating discussion regarding the role of AI in creative writing. While skeptics fear AI may replace authors, I view it as a valuable tool that can inspire creativity and provide narrative frameworks. My personal reflections on the story show how even AI's limitations can spark deeper, more thought-provoking issues regarding dependence on external beliefs.
